Below is a step-by-step guide on filling out the trainer application. Any questions which are answered in the text below will not be replied to, either in comments or through notes, so please read carefully. For any questions that you can't find answers to in this guide, please refer to the FAQ produced for it before asking questions.

The sheet can be filled out by members and submitted to Pokemon-UBF as many times as you like, creating countless Original Characters, though you may only enter ONE into the Main Tournament for 2011. There is no deadline for the trainer sheet to be submitted to the group however there is a deadline for sheets to be submitted that will be competing in the tournament. Do not edit the sheet or use for your own purposes. The sheet is for the use in the Ultimate Battle Frontier League group.

All sheets that are submitted will be reviewed by a selected group of people, also known as our “Review Panel,” which will make sure that each submitted sheet abides by all the rules listed below. Any applications violating the rules will be rejected with the necessary feedback provided that would be required for your sheet to become valid.
Template Guide

Please read through the following information carefully before asking any questions.

Trainer Information Sections

Headshot: You may either do one front-on headshot or two headshots (front and back) of your trainer's beautiful (or not so beautiful) face.

Trainer (Front) and Trainer (Back): Full body views of your trainer from the front and back. This is the easiest way to try and figure out how the mechanics of clothing work in action and in concept and is also great practice for artist's that are trying to draw consistent mirror imagery. Both front and back views need to be filled out.

Color Pallete (Optional): If you want, you may fill this out so that people know the exact colors of your trainer's eyes/skin/hair/ etc. If you choose not to, that's okay! People will probably just swatch from your application or make guesswork.

Trainer Info: Here you input all information that is requested in a simple/concise manner. Every field is required. Your trainer can be from any location in the pokemon world so long as you can give credible links in the case of anime-only based locations.

Species: The species of your pokemon must be an official English or Japanese name from generations 1-5.

Ability: Only one ability is allowed and must be from available in the game. Dream World abilities are allowed.

Nature: One word descriptor of your pokemon. Does NOT have to be an official nature, though you may use one.

Item: One hold item per pokemon. Clothing that has a purely aesthetic effect does not count as the item.

Moveset: Must be four official, in-game moves from any generation for that specific pokemon species. TMs, HMs, and Egg Moves are all permitted, as well as move tutor moves. If the pokemon can learn it, you can use it.

For a full list of pokemon move pools please visit Bulbapedia, Veekun or

Levels: Don't replace the "XX"s with numbers, we are not using levels.

Banned Pokemon: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Dialga, Palkia, Heatran, Regigigas, Giratina, Cresselia, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, Arceus, Victini, Kobaruon, Terakion, Birijion, Torunerosu, Borutorosu, Reshiram, Zekrom, Randorosu, Kyuremu, Kerudio, Meroetta, and Genosect.

UBF Template FAQ
Below you will find commonly found questions in relation to the application.

:bulletgreen:I don't want to enter the Main Tournament, is there a spectator/NPC form?
:bulletblue: No, there is not a spectator form. HOWEVER; the application is NOT a part of the main tournament in ANY way. Feel free to fill out an application and treat the trainer as a spectator all on your own!

:bulletgreen: Are non human characters allowed?
:bulletblue: Yes, so long as they are somehow linked to pokemon, and have exclusively aesthetic intentions. (ie; a pokemorph or gijinka will have average human intelligence and no abilities or powers beyond human capabilities)

:bulletgreen: Are shiny/alternate colored pokemon permitted?
:bulletblue: - Your pokemon MAY have alternate colors so long as they can appear that way in ANY game or in the anime. Please use this wisely.

:bulletgreen: Can we enter with more than one trainer?
:bulletblue: You are free to enter as many characters are you wish into the GROUP. However, only one of those characters will be allowed to participate in the Main Tournament.

:bulletgreen: Can we have more than one trainer in a single application (ie; twins, lovers, etc)
:bulletblue: Yes; however, keep in mind the pros and cons to entering more than one trainer into an application. Also, they must have an affiliation similar to the ones found in-game (read: twins Tate and Liza), and they must share a party of pokemon and battle as if they were one trainer. Permitted, but  not recommended.

:bulletgreen: The pokemon's level section has two x's. What does this mean?
:bulletblue: Since this is not the game, levels are barred and discarded from the tournament and general aspect of the group (in order to maintain fair match ups and compatibility with desired move pools).

:bulletgreen:When a person inserts a trainer from 2010's UBF, will they have aged a year?
:bulletblue: Yes. This years UBF runs a year after the original, parallel to the HeliosConference. This means your character from 2010's UBF will be a year older than they were before.

:bulletgreen:Are pet/companion pokemon permitted?
:bulletblue:So long as they are NOT providing assistance to their trainer in ANY way. "Domesticated Animal" is the most appropriate definition noted.

:bulletgreen:Which Pokemon are Banned from Use?
:bulletblue: If its a legendary pokemon you can only encounter once, you can't use it. The only exception is Rotom, or any event pokemon that can breed.

:bulletgreen:Can our Pokemon evolve during the tournament?
:bulletblue:While it is permitted, we prefer that you avoid using it as a scapegoat for an easy win. Get creative if you can!

Please send any further inquiries via note to the group. Questions posed in comments are not guaranteed to be answered as accurately (if at all). Please ask questions if you have them. When in doubt, shout it out. In a note. To your friendly neighborhood admins.

Great thanks,
The Pokemon Battle Frontier Staff
